This summer, we welcomed two undergraduate students into our lab and we could not be more impressed with all the hard work and dedication that they have shown!
Carissa Chestnut joined us from SUNY Stony Brook University as part of the Genomics Summer Research for Magnificents (GSRM) Program. Her work focused on using duodenal transcriptomics to understand environmental enteric dysfunction. She was mentored by PhD candidate, Paola Fonseca-Romero.

Lindsey Sanders joined our lab from Spelman College as part of the BRIDGE-UP HBCU Program. Her work this summer investigated longitudinal changes in the oral microbiome following gut fecal microbiota transplantation. She was mentored by postdoctoral fellow, Mary Vallecillo-Zuniga.

We are proud to serve as a space where undergraduate students can receive mentoring to prepare them for the future! To wrap up the summer, the entire lab went out for a bite to eat at Pizza Nono in downtown Salt Lake City. We hope that our summer students enjoyed their time in the lab and gained valuable skills for their future!
